West Wirral Musical Society
Welcomes all members and supporters of the Society and lovers of theatre and music. We are a small, friendly amateur society. Each year we perform a Gilbert and Sullivan opera locally on the Wirral, alongside a number of concerts and the occasional pantomime. New members are always welcome, both playing and non-playing. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings at St Luke’s Methodist Church in Hoylake from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.
The theatre is not the place for the musician. When the curtain is up the music interrupts the actor, and when it is down the music interrupts the audience..
I’m really very sorry for you all, but it’s an unjust world, and virtue is triumphant only in theatrical performances..
For myself, I can only say that I am astonished and somewhat terrified at the results of this evening’s experiments. Astonished at the wonderful power you have developed, and terrified at the thought that so much hideous and bad music may be put on record forever.

Master to Master – The Story of Gilbert and Sullivan
Master to Master comes from a phrase used by W.S. Gilbert in a letter to A.S. Sullivan at a time when there was – let us be polite – some friction between them, “If we meet it must be as master and master, not master and servant”. The slight alteration of the “And” to the “To” is to try and show the tension that existed between the two of them, especially in their later years.
